01

Packaging Begins With the Requirement

Strong packaging must do more than look attractive. It may need to protect a product, support food handling, organize components, communicate instructions, meet shipping requirements, fit a retail environment, or create a memorable opening experience. CIVSourcing begins by documenting these functional and brand requirements.

Important considerations include product dimensions, weight, contents, intended use, storage, transportation, closure, barrier needs, quantity, artwork, materials, assembly, delivery location, and budget. Where regulated products or food-contact applications are involved, the client remains responsible for identifying applicable legal and compliance requirements, while supplier documentation can be requested as part of sourcing.

02

Formats Across Industries

CIVSourcing can coordinate custom boxes, folding cartons, rigid boxes, mailers, paper and reusable bags, flexible pouches, labels, sleeves, inserts, tissue, foodservice containers, amenity packaging, presentation kits, and gift packaging. Applications may span hospitality, restaurants, wellness, personal care, retail, consumer goods, corporate gifting, events, and cannabis-related packaging where appropriate.

A packaging solution may be a customized stock format or a fully developed structure. Stock formats can offer lower minimums or faster timelines, while custom structures may provide stronger differentiation and product fit when quantity, timing, and tooling budgets support development.

03

Development Sampling and Production

The development process may include concept review, material selection, structural recommendations, dielines, prototypes, decoration options, preproduction samples, testing identified by the client, and final production. Changes to dimensions, materials, finishes, or quantities can affect price and lead time, so decisions should be documented before final approval.

CIVSourcing coordinates communication among the client, creative resources, and suppliers. We help organize options and approvals, but production begins only after the designated client representative approves the final specifications, artwork, quantities, and proof or sample requirements.

04

Packaging as Part of an Integrated Program

Packaging often connects several CIVSourcing pillars. A wellness launch may require primary product packaging, retail cartons, printed education materials, a merchandise kit, and fulfillment. A restaurant catering program may need food containers, branded bags, tissue, menu inserts, and delivery to multiple locations.

By considering those touchpoints together, clients can make more coordinated decisions about materials, appearance, packing, storage, and distribution. Sustainable alternatives can also be evaluated where they are practical and supported by supplier information.
